POAS VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK With a hike of only 15 minutes from the visitor center where a small museum with a model of the area began its ascent on the way adjusted. Except for the area around the main boiler, the POAS VOLCANO NATIONAL PARK is full of lush vegetation and small wildlife. Have been observed some 79 species of birds that have been identified within the conservation area including the quetzal, sparrows, hummingbirds and Robin which are very common. Very few mammals found within the park, however, we can see marmots, coyotes, rabbits, squirrels, also reptiles like snakes, frogs and a host of insects that are always present. The different areas within the protected area are mainly the cloud forest, mountain rain forest and wet forest of low mountains. Walking along the path Botos will take approximately 30 minutes to the Botos Lagoon, a beautiful crater that covers 400m, jade and frequented by many species of birds in the park.

Located an hour and a half from San José, Poas has become popular for being a day trip. Visitors often do a whole journey of 108 miles round trip, watching endless fields of coffee and flower farms around the area of the park. The weekends usually is full and after noon the clouds begin to obscure the crater, causing the isolation of this beautiful sight observation. But on a clear day one can see both the Pacific and the Atlantic coast.

La Paz Waterfall

Very close to Poas Volcano National Park include the Waterfall Gardens La Paz (Opening hours: 8.30 am to 17.30 pm), built around a spectacular waterfall formed as the Peace River drops 1400 meters in less than eight miles along the flanks of the volcano Poas where you will find a wonderful butterfly, frogs of all sizes and colors-there-poisonous, macaws (parrots), toucans ... and even a hummingbird garden, the world's largest, with 24 different species of these little birds. Among heliconias and ferns, you will visit La Casita de La Paz, where you can taste sweet and cheese, before traveling the 3.5 miles of roads that pass near enabled the waterfalls of the park: the Temple, White Magic, the Angel also called La Paz and San Fernando.
